The Turning Wheel
Spellling
what an absolutely luxurious album to bask in the glow of. i first heard only one of the singles? from the album - boys at school around the time it came out. it was certainly something i appreciated but not enough to listen to the whole album (neither did i consider listening to albums like i do now, then)
for some inexplicable reason i thought about this song again when looking for a long song to play for the entirety of my short shower (yes, i keep a speaker in my shower - it's a thing for me) and I'm so glad i did. i was reminded of how lush and FRESH the song is. always changing, unformulaic and evocative. found myself singing along to the bits of lyrics i remember from years ago.
ofcourse, i had to listen to the whole album and it was a delight. very consistent in its sound, rich, dynamic, potent.
it's entirely possible that a few relistens and the passage of time will bump this to a 4.5 on my scale

Oct '24has a lyric which goes "Maybe I made a mistake Come and save me, I'm floating in space Farther and farther away From the point that I wanted to make" that just resonates each time i hear it
Oct '23the ominously building baseline is so goof. and also "I can feel a leopard seal Oh, I can feel a leopard seal"
Oct '23probably the magnum opus on this album
Oct '23this song is fkn murderous
Mar '25has this synth tune starting at 2:15 that reminds me of music played at indian weddings. and it sounds so groovy on this song
Oct '23really feels like an evil magician casting an ominous spell on you that's just materializing as the song. when the guitar solos do exit at the end, you're still being hit with a wall of dark synths which sap away your energy as they leave you
Oct '23main riff against the noise getting larger and crescendoing is just chefs kiss
Oct '23a beautiful closer for the entire album experiences
